The product · writer.roono.app
A desk for serious writing.
roono is a markdown editor built around the writer — live in the browser today at writer.roono.app. Keyboard before mouse, calm typography by default, a full command palette, and two kinds of help: Ask roono when you want a reading, and Writing Coach when you want a draft reviewed like a patient editor.
A blank page. Nothing else.
Markdown at the center. Headings collapse into an outline (CmdShiftO),
links and emphasis live under your fingers or through the command palette (Cmd/),
which now includes formatting actions — bold, italic, lists, headings — without reaching for a toolbar.
Smart typography turns -- into an em dash. View mode renders the draft calmly when you want
to read instead of edit (CmdShiftV). Focus mode hides the chrome and
returns just as quietly (Cmd.).
File drafts into folders, jump between them with quick-open (CmdP), and keep version history when a paragraph needs to be rescued. Find and replace stays scoped to the document. Export is one keystroke away (CmdShiftE): markdown for every tier; PDF, DOCX, and EPUB on roono Cloud. Appearance controls let you pick light, dark, or system theme and tune type size without leaving the desk.
The writer's toolbox, one panel.
roono ships with the toolkit a writer would otherwise tab away to find. Look up a word and the dictionary panel returns a definition, pronunciation, etymology, synonyms, and antonyms in parallel. The thesaurus surfaces related words and rhymes when you need a different angle. Hold a draft against LanguageTool's full ruleset for grammar that catches commas and contradictions alike. Spellcheck runs locally in your browser in en-US or en-GB; teach it a word once and it remembers. Readability metrics — Flesch-Kincaid, Coleman-Liau, ARI, a sentence-length histogram, the passive-voice ratio — sit beside the draft without judging it. Writing rhythm tracks sentence length and cadence over the piece.

Ask roono — when you want a reading.
Ask roono (CmdJ) is one keystroke away and stays out of every other panel. Ask about voice, rhythm, repetition, or structure; highlight a passage and the answer stays anchored to your selection. Suggested chips keep common questions one tap away. Threads remember the conversation so you can return without re-explaining the draft.
It does not autocomplete. It does not finish your sentences. It does not fix anything you did not ask it to fix. Behind the panel sits a five-provider chain — Groq, Cerebras, NVIDIA NIM, DeepSeek (US writers only), and OpenRouter as a quiet safety net. Voice cues run on every tier; the structural and contradiction surfaces unlock for roono Cloud. When the chain needs a moment, roono says taking a breath and tells you when to try again. No banners, no popups.
Signals, not substitutions.
Writing Coach — review the draft, not the writer.
Writing Coach (CmdShiftC) opens beside your draft in split view. It reads what you wrote — structure, evidence, clarity, voice — and responds in plain language, like a patient editor who will not rewrite your sentences unless you ask. Pick an audience: adult, high school, or college. Choose an assignment lens (argument, narrative, research, and more). Paste a rubric when your teacher expects one.
Coach is included with roono Cloud. It is built for school essays and long-form work alike — the same desk, with guidance tuned to who will read the draft.
Research and citations, beside the draft.
Sources, clips, and citations stay one glance away — structured enough to trust, quiet enough to ignore until you need them. The outline panel tracks headings as your argument grows. Writing stats and a daily target sit in the status bar when you want accountability without gamification.
Every keystroke, kept.
Drafts autosave about half a second after you stop typing. Each save snapshots into version history so yesterday's paragraph survives today's revision. Sign in with Google or a magic link; roono Draft keeps three active documents and seven days of history; roono Cloud lifts both caps and syncs across browsers. Export stays plain — markdown and HTML for everyone; PDF, DOCX, and EPUB on Cloud, live on writer.roono.app today.
Quiet by design.
Focus mode hides the chrome. Smart typography curls straight quotes and converts dashes into em dashes, stays out of code blocks, and toggles off when you ask. There are no toolbars. There are no notifications. The status bar holds the word count, the reading-time estimate, and a single dot for the writing target if you have set one. Everything else waits behind a key — including on a phone or tablet when you need to capture a paragraph away from your desk.
